The tradition of Daily Texts began in 1722 when Nicolaus Ludwig Count von Zinzendorf provided shelter for religious refugees arriving from Bohemia and Moravia. This community of believers shared morning and evening devotions, consciously placing their lives under the Lord’s watch.
On May 3, 1728, Zinzendorf gave his congregation a watchword to help shape the conversation in the homes. Thus began the practice of Daily Texts. Mount Carmel uses the daily verses from Moravians, adds a daily prayer, hymns, and other devotional materials, into this wonderful devotional booklet made available each year.
The Daily Texts is a unique devotional book with two Bible verses for each day – one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. These are followed by a prayer for each day based on the TRIP© prayer method. Scripture readings to read through the Bible in one year are also provided. Each Sunday has a Watchword verse and hymn for the week.
In addition to the daily entries the book is filled with journal space for capturing monthly prayer concerns and observations throughout the book. The back section of the book is filled with instructive sections on Martin Luther’s Prayer Life, Listening to the Shepherd’s Voice, Lectio Divina Prayer Pattern, Sharing with your family, Topics for Daily Intercession, Luther’s Small Catechism, Luther’s Private Confessional and a list of hymns.
